Paperboy

I have just finished another great read! Paperboy, written by Vince Vawter.  The book received a Newbery Honor and so well deserved for the first time novelist.

Paperboy is a sweet story of a boy who helps by taking his vacationing friends paper route. In just one short month, this young boy with a stutter, learns many life lessons and meets some people who will touch his life.

I hope you read this book and enjoy it as much as I did. A quick and enjoyable read.

The One Safe Place

If you have read The Giver, and now need a new, similar read, try The One Safe Place. Written by Tania Unsworth, this novel takes place in a near-future dystopia where children are taken off of the streets and taken to the Home, where they think they will begin a better life. In this fast-paced story, the children find out quickly that the Home is not what they hoped it would be. The question now becomes, can they escape? Devin tries to convince Kit, who dreams of being adopted, that escape is their only option for survival. Will his plan succeed or will he and the other kids be used by the Administrator until they are no longer needed?

Good for grades 4-8

I am currently in the Boston, MA area and had the pleasure of attending a book signing last night for local author, Lisa Sugarman. Lisa is a columnist for The Marblehead Reporter,  and has written her first novel, Life: It Is What It Is. She delivers an enjoyable and fun read. The author is living a busy and full life and shares her experiences that mom's everywhere face and can relate to. I highly recommend this book! It will make you laugh and make you cry, but it's nice to know, that as a mom, I have a compadre in this thing we call life! Just click on the book to read more about it!

This book is not for the kids, but for moms everywhere! Enjoy...

Finally Back!

WOW! It has been so long since I have posted! Has your life been as crazy as mine?? School, scouts, life in general has been a whirlwind. But, I am back and will be adding some wonderful book recommendations.

The first book I want to bring to your attention to is:

One Came Home by Amy Timberlake

One Came Home is a Newbery Honor book set in the 19th century. Young Georgie Burkhardt's sister, Agatha, has run away, two weeks later a young lady is found dead... Is it Agatha? The family believes it is and buries her as their own. But Georgie is not so sure. She sets out with Billy McCabe, one of Agatha's suitors, to find out the truth about what really happened. Their journey leads them into the path some dangerous people and situations.

You will enjoy this novel from the first page to the last. For grades 4-7.
